Dementia Friends

Over 200 students and staff members of the Health and Social Care department have participated in the Dementia Friends information sessions. Run by the Alzheimer’s Society, the initiative aims to challenge misconceptions and stigmas around dementia and promotes ways people can foster a more dementia-friendly community where they live.

Our students and staff are now equipped with five key messages about dementia, as well as an understanding of small actions they can take that could make a huge difference to people with dementia in and around Cambridge.

Delightfully, the interactive sessions were all delivered by Jan Payne, who is a former student of the Cambridgeshire County High School for Girls – which is now Long Road Sixth Form College!

Students and staff found the Dementia Friends sessions really informative and engaging, and are feeling very positive about supporting individuals with dementia in our local community, whether through work experience, future careers or personal connections to family, friends and neighbours. We are hugely grateful to Jan for sharing her wisdom with us!
